Pokémon: Sword and Shield DLC – The Crown Tundra out now!

Yesterday saw the release of the second expansion for Pokémon: Sword and Shield, The Crown Tundra. Be ready to travel to a completely new region, a winter wonderland carpeted in snow, icy peaks and bitter cold weather. Don’t forget your fire types!

The DLC brings with it new Pokémon, new characters, a new co-op gameplay feature titled Dynamax Adventure, new clothing features and a whole new battleground called The Galarian Star Tournament.

Some ‘new’ Pokémon you can expect to find, and hopefully catch, are our three favourite legendary birds but in Galarian form; Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos.

Check out a trailer for the expansion below:

The Dynamax Adventure feature lets you explore Pokémon dens with friends, which essentially work as four player co-op dungeons. At the start of the dungeon you have to choose out of a randomly generated group of Pokémon. Every time you win in an encounter, you have the option to swap to the Pokémon you just beat. You’ll be making your way through, fighting increasingly rarer Pokémon the deeper into the dungeon you get, ultimately trying to nab the legendary at the end.

To me this sounds interesting, and although you can only catch the legendary once there is an air of replayability to the new mode. As you can redo the dungeons, you can catch other Pokémon you haven’t accumulated in your Pokédex yet, simply by beating them and keeping them ’til the end of your run.

What do you think about The Crown Tundra DLC, is it a hit or a miss? I imagine most of you that would want to play it already own the season pass, so you’ll play it anyway. But for those that don’t, do you think it’s something to get excited about?
